About Our School

The original Bodhi Tree is in Bodh Gaya, India.  It is the legendary fig tree under which Prince Siddhartha Gautama was sitting when he became enlightened.  It is where Siddhartha became The Buddha. 

In 1998, I created The Bodhi Tree as a space for others to find enlightenment through self exploration primarily through the practice of Yoga. Classes were offered in a wide range of yoga practices such as asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and chanting, as well as other body awareness and movement studies such as Pilates, NIA, belly dancing and more. My philosphy is to encourage people to get out of their heads and into their bodies. I encourage any movement that gets people feeling instead of thinking!

The Bodhi Tree Yoga & Pilates Studio morphed into The Bodhi Tree Yoga & Pilates School in 2002. This transition occurred when I realized that if my goal (my Dharma) is to get the entire planet doing yoga, I needed to pick up the pace a bit. The next logical step was to teach students to become teachers, therefore providing a high quality of teachers for the rising local demand.

The Bodhi Tree School was born with The Yoga Alliance's national stamp of approval! It is already in its 6th year and growing! It is Charlotte's original yoga & pilates school with Charlotte's best teachers! Pilates teacher training was added this year, and workshops and seminars on yoga and pilates will be coming soon. Licensed bodywork & massage therapy continuing education classes will be coming in 2009. The Bodhi Tree is the place to come for all types of mind/body/spirit training and continuing ed.
